Typically these calls come from people who have had plants for a while, have been caring for them themselves and have done quite well but are getting to a point where they feel they need our expertise to bring new life to them.

-The first thing we do in such case is look for pest. The most common interior plant pest is the Mealy-bug, a white cotton like insect that you can sometimes find on the bottom of the younger leaves. The fastest way to get rid of them is by wiping them off with a soapy solution.
You can then spray the leaves with a commercially available insecticide so they don't come back so fast.

-Add soil to the top of the root ball as well as some at the bottom. Unless you have a serious case of roots curling around outside your grow pot, just adding some fresh potting soil will often do the trick. Take advantage at this point to check for moisture. Remove any standing water or just give it a good fresh drink of pure water. 

-Next is the pruning and trimming. You will be amazed to see the difference after you remove all the brown leaves and bad tips that have accumulated over the years. Cut back and prune by trying to bring back the original shape of your plant. Don't forget to rotate it. Plants grow towards the light and sometimes by just rotating them you get a brand new plant!

-Then comes the magic touch: dust your plant and add some shine to it. You need to wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove all the dust and then you can spray and wipe a leaf shine product.

Voila! Life is back and it's beautiful!
